Osteoarthritis Pain

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that progresses over time. It causes joint pain and stiffness, and limits your daily activities. The joints most commonly affected are the knees, hips, shoulders, spine, hands and feet.

Chronic Pain

An acute pain is a necessary reaction of the nervous system that assists in making your body alert to a possible injury. Chronic pain is defined by most as pain persisting greater than 3 months and not providing the benefit of an acute pain. This is termed a maladaptive response as the pain does not help us adapt.

Knee Pain

Knee pain is a common problem with a variety of different causes. Acute knee pain may be secondary to an injury or inflammation. Chronic knee pain is frequently secondary to osteoarthritis (either primary or post-traumatic osteoarthritis).

Lower Back Pain

Low back pain also has a variety of causes ranging from muscle strain, overuse injury, facet joint degeneration, disc herniation or nerve entrapment (impingement). The diagnosis is mostly apparent from the history of events and physical examination. An MRI or CT scan is needed at times for diagnostic purposes.
